The Mountaineer Lumber Company entered the playoffs as the fifth and final seed. To make the semifinals, they had to win on Thursday in the play in #4 vs #5 game vs. T3 Warhawks. They did just that--beating the T3 Warhawks 6-2 advancing to the semifinals to face the #1 seed Stark County Terriers on Saturday's semifinal game 1.
In the semifinal game 1, Mountaineer Lumber Company came from behind and held on to a 6-5 win against the Stark County Terriers. Mountaineer trailed 2-0 then 3-2 before scoring 3 in the 5th to go ahead 5-3. Stark County then tied it 5-5 in the bottom of the 5th. In the 7th, Mountaineer took the lead 6-5 and held off Stark County's 7th inning rally to upset the #1 seed and advance to the championship game.
The second game featured the #3 seed B2 Bulls and the #2 seed Premier Ohio. Premier got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Premier lead 7-3 going into the 7th inning when B2 launched a comeback. Dillon Gamber for B2 hit a 2 run homer to cut the lead to 7-5 but Premier shut the door after the homer to win semifinal #2.
The championship game pitted #5 Mountaineer Lumber Company and the #2 seed Premier Ohio. Mountaineer started with a bang putting up 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back. The final score was Mountaineer Lumber Company 23 Premier Ohio 1.
Mountaineer Lumber Company became the first team to win the WRCL starting the playoffs with a below .500 regular season record. As the WRCL Playoff champion, they will attend the NABF College World Series in Youngstown.
